AYRS Zoom meeting about strip plank boat building

This post was updated on Nov 29, 2021; 8:53am.
Steve's 16 foot sailing dinghy under construction

Steve Goodchild will talk about building his sixteen foot sailing dinghy at an Amateur Yacht Research Society Zoom meeting on  11th December 2021 at 19:30.   All are welcome so do log in - you do not have to be a member of the AYRS to attend AYRS meetings.

Steve is an experienced woodworker, at one time he owned and ran a woodworking and furniture making factory in Malawi, but this was his first boat building project.

I hope that this meeting will show that the AYRS is not just about experimental boats but is also relevant to the building of practical boats for everday use – even if a boat building project produces a fairly conventional end result there is plenty of scope for inovation, both in the details and fittings and in the construction methods.  I think this will be well demonstrated by Steve’s project.

If you would like a preview to Steve’s presentation, the Stornoway 16 is a design by Selway Fisher and the example built by Steve is featured at this webpage:   https://epoxycraft.com/projects/building-a-stornoway-16-part-3/https://epoxycraft.com/projects/building-a-stornoway-16-part-3/

Re: AYRS Zoom meeting about strip plank boat building

Re. this meeting, Steve Goodchild gave us an excelent talk.  He is clearly a competent craftsman and he is also good at explaining his techniques.  I have a recording of the talk, although this misses the first few minutes since I failed to click the record button right at the beginning.  If anyone would like to view this recording let me know and I can send it by 'WeTransfer' since it too large a file for email I think.
