Christmas wishes

There's an old story about the New York Times contacting the ambassadors from various countries to ask what they wanted for Christmas. The British ambassador thought hard and made his selection trying to be quintessentially British and not sound greedy.

When the Christmas issue came out he read that the French ambassador had wished for an end to hunger, the Chinese ambassador for world peace, the Australian for global financial stability and he, the British ambassador, was hoping for 'a new pipe and a pair of slippers.'

In our family we avoid the 'I don't know what anyone wants' syndrome by sharing wish lists.

Made me wonder: what would other HBBR members wish for in their christmas stocking. Some global benefit, boating bits, or any neat gadgets or gizmos you're hankering after?

Re: Christmas wishes

In order to resolve the current financial problems in Europe and make it a Happy New Year for at least some people, I offer the following solution to the Greek problem.

Greek should default on its loans. This means that the silly bankers who leant them the money in the first place will lose out, and hopefully lose their bonuses.

Greece should go back to the Drachma which will immediately de-value.
The exchange rate for Sterling will be brilliant, so we can all go on holiday to Greece on the cheap.

The Greeks, who are lovely friendly people and know how to make you feel welcome, deserve a break, and they will be very happy to see us.

The Germans, who's banks lent them the money will go in the huff, so there will be loads of room round the pool and on the beaches, and of course the French never go anywhere anyway.

Should be some good deals on flotilla holidays too!

Simples.

A 50% reduction in the new University fees so that my youngest daughter does not end up with student debt more than my first mortgage - really.

A block HBBR booking on a cheap (but very cheerful) Greek sailing holiday would round things off nicely.
