Collective Spirit at Weymouth

Here are some pictures of the lovely community boat Collective Spirit on the dockside at Weymouth last week. It was built by community volunteers under the guidance of a professional boatbuilder.

Local people were invited to donate any piece of wood, as long as it had a story. Pieces ranged from an offcut to a Jimi Hendrix guitar:

I'll add more pictures later to keep each message compact....

Re: Collective Spirit at Weymouth

I do like the curvy, streamlined cabin. Something for MilliBee perhaps if we each donate a piece?

Re: Collective Spirit at Weymouth

The hull bottom is 30mm thick, the top 20mm. Donate items were "deconstructed" and each volunteer was given one metre to fill. Pieces were held in place with blue tack until they looked right, overlaps were then drawn and cut with a scrollsaw and epoxied in place.

That was followed by several weeks of sanding and varnishing!
