Eastport Pram

Three weeks or so ago a friend asked if I knew of a small rowing boat that he could get for his wife to row round the harbor at Porth Maddock north Wales. I said it was a shame he had not asked earlier as I would have made him one.A couple of beers later and we had Ordered a Fyne Boats kit for a Eastport Pram. This is a 7 1/2 foot ply stitch and glue clinker dingy with the planks joined together with a natty stepped system( see the Fyne web site)so that you get a clinker effect and do not have to tape the joints. Having a kit realy does make things easier and quicker. From opening the kit we were able to wire the boat together (that is a bottom plank, 4 planks each side and both transoms) in one morning and glue all the plans in the afternoon. The rest of the kit is going together easily and should be finished by next week.Hopefully it will be painted and on the water by the middle of April. Building from a kit is a bit of a cheat but it does seem to me to be a good way of getting a boat on the water quickly or encouraging the less skilled to build their own boats. Chris A.
