Re: Google Rankings

Hi David,
David Bewick wrote
I can see that much of the content on this site is going to be fairly static if it represents the shared wisdom on how to do something to do with boat building.
I think you may misunderstand! The function of the shop window pages, whether integrated with the forum or on a separate site, is NOT to present the combined wisdom  of the HBBR membership, but simply to ensure that all key words that people might enter into a search engine are found in the right places to ensure that those pages are likely to appear high in the list of search results. A visit to those pages will then lead to the forum where the wisdom can be found.
However, at least one part of the content - that to do with planned events - should be dynamic and that is the thing that lets down the current site more than anything else in my view.
While I accept that my earlier list, that covered, DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, PROPULSION, SAILING, FINISHING did lack an EVENTS page as a suggestion, (and events is what our name would suggest we are all about, so it was a serious omission) I am not sure that it would need to be dynamic, as long as words like:

rally, raid, cruise, meeting, show, challenge, camp, barton, broads, cobnor, thames, beale

were included, that should prove sufficient for the purpose. I still argue that the forum is the place to find the current information about any individual event.
I would be happy to maintain this part of the site if no-one else wants to and if someone can give me the necessary access rights.
Having said that I believe the "shop window" pages need NOT include specifics about either future (as details may change) or past events (as they can quickly appear historic - witness the current WordPress site), I would see that an annual or, perhaps, six-monthly update might be useful - and I certainly believe that it is important that several people have access to "shop window" site so it can be both updated or recovered and uploaded elsewhere, if that should prove necessary.
