How to design a boat in 6 minutes

First take one that you started earlier, realised it was not quite right and chopped into pieces.

Kill the rocker, drop the freeboard, trim the beam and make it pointy at both ends:

Now you have a lovely 15ft row-able, paddle-able sailing canoe design.

I take it that the premise is :-  As long as it is "Work in progress", it is not a "Third boat" ???? Possibly  it`s a canoe!!
( N.B.  If a longbow arrow travels at `n` yards / second can you get to over `n` + a little bit ,from a standing start, just after yours truly recognises the changes in the wood pile?)

Now your talking, get a move on and it should be ready for the Thames Raid.

John - it's not a boat at all....it's an illusion.

Grim,
A quick sketch inspired by the Gloucester Dory...blue line loaded to 100kg

Finish by June? you've forgotten the vital role of the private sector.

Re: How to design a boat in 6 minutes

And of course, the next development once there has been a discussion regarding that hard chine going all the way forward, and Phil Bolger's, Sea of Peas theory of hydrodynamics, will be to sweep those chines upwards into a nice Vee.

Gentlemen I give you....

The canoe sterned Premis 16, Katie Beardie.

Keep Going Paul your getting there.

Looks like you've got the makings of a Duck Punt there, Paul.  They can be rowed, paddled, sailed or even motored..................

I never started with a Duck Punt idea in my head - I just ended up with something similar by experience.

Graham - the (flat) floor is 9mm so a curvy twist to the first chine will be hard to achieve. But a saw line down the centre for the first 4ft might allow a 45 degree V by twisting the two halves of the floor together.

Good luck twisting 9mm. I had enough trouble twisting 4mm.

RE: How to design a boat in 6 minutes

Re twisting ply: My method of twisting ply was to wrap it in a towel, pour boiling water onto the towel, wrap it in bubble wrap and leave it for.. (can’t remember how long for, something like 20 minutes or longer if necessary). It worked like a dream. It was only 5mm ply but it was just as stiff as a proper 9mm marine ply I used on the next boat.
