It all seems very quiet since I unsubscribed. Has everyone migrated to somewhere else?

I am still around, focused more and boat repair and renovation recently though. Current project is a 1981 kit built Miracle dinghy that the owner and I are doing a back to bare wood renovation on. Hopefully after we are finished it will be good for another 40 years

Greg,
There is a Facebook HBBR group. A lot of traffic has moved to the DCA website, which has an embedded Website Toolbox forum. There are about 1200 members registered on the DCA website Also the DCA Facebook group has over 20,000 members, with daily activity. Happy memories of HBBR though. -Paul |

Shame UK HBBR activity has migrated to F-Book. A backward step IMHO. Is HBBR to close?
Thank goodness for DCA - A splendid organisation! Equally, OGA. Paul W https://mymorbic.uk/ |

I don't do anything META other than WhatsApp. My only experiment in Social Media is Mastodon, which in terms of boating has remarkably few boating types on it.
I seem to be the only one posting on the Norfolk Broads, and there are less then half a dozen Canal boaters that post more than monthly. I've yet to encounter a canoeist or dinghy sailor. I even struggle to maintain https://gregafloat.org.uk/index.php these days.

forum
/ˈfɔːrəm/ noun 1. a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged. "we hope these pages act as a forum for debate" When is a Forum not a Forum? When people have nothing to say. or, When people choose to go off somewhere else where people are gathering and talking. HBBR hasn't actively moved to FB, Paul H started a HBBR FB Page and nothing much happens over there either. FB has killed off quite a few fori (?) but the thing that will do the most harm is silence. Use it or lose it! G. |

Hi Graham
Re. Forum / Forums / Fori / etc. The Latin plural would be "fora". Just ask any ancient Roman. Or the Latin dictionary. Nominative Singular Plural Nominative Forum Fora Genitive Fori Fororum Dative Foro Foris Accusative Forum Fora Ablative Foro Foris Vocative Forum Fora It's probably similar for Stadium(s), Agenda(s), and a whole lot more. Now to move off the trivia - (OMG - another Latin word - "trivium" if singular = three way junction, from tri-vium.) Anyway - How's your Morbic? Ours is in the "workshop" drying out prior to fixing a very slow weep from alongside the CB housing. Paul W |

You say Pot-ay-to, no one says Pot-a-to.
The Morbic is over-wintering in the garage. She's had a lick of paint after the abuse the gets from the sand and gravel in Chi Harbour. Photo for those who've been asleep at the back. ![]() I'm currently using the road base for Foamfollower my latest build. ![]() We will be out tomorrow with the DCA near Emsworth. The HBBR was originally set up to organise rallies for Home Boat Builders, and in it's own way was very successful for around ten years. One problem was finding suitable venues for the diverse types of boat people had built. Another was a lack of volunteers to actually make things happen. Maybe that's one of the drawbacks of not having any kind of structure. As Paul H said many people, including myself, joined the DCA, others joined the OGA, both organisations being much better at getting things done. |
