Lechlade Marina.

Over Christmas I met a lady who told me her daughter and son in law had recently (July 2018) bought Lechlade marina and were in the process of turning it back into a friendly, helpful, well run marina. I went and had a look today and the new owner was certainly very helpful. They have a large not too steep launch slip with very good access which certainly will make launching boats like mine quite easy. A walk along the Thames in the sun made me look forward to next summer!

That is promising news Chris. A quick check shows that Lechlade Marina is 1500m upstream of the Trout Inn slip - almost no problem rowing/sailing downhill apart from another lock.


However, I don't see a large area for caching cars and trailers prior to the Beale car+trailer shuffle. The New Inn pub has a large grass garden by the river and it might be possible to store trailers there for a few hours. I stress might, because G-Maps shows rocks near the pub car park to keep cars off the grass.

Nothing a 4x4 and rope cannot move  Bring your tractor John?

Ah Lechlade Marina, so many happy memories.
I'm glad to hear it is in safe hands.
I do hope the new owners do nothing to spoil the quaint charm of the facilities.
How we enjoyed our alfresco meal of fish and chips in the Captain's Gazebo.

Having looked at both sites I think the Trout is still the best place to start down the river with its small boat slip, parking, camping and good pub. The thing about the marina is that it gives an option for larger boats to launch. Last year the nearest to Lechlade I could find a slip for my boat was Eysham. Incidentally the marina owner who is a steam boat enthusiast did mention that there are some steam  boat people thinking of doing a trip to Beale park.
