Neil Pryde are well known for high performance and windsurf sails but they also do a very nice 64sq ft sail for gaff or spritsail rigging:
http://www.neilprydesails.com/store/pram.htm There is jolly good rigging guide here, a picture is worth a thousand words: http://www.neilprydesails.com/store/images/Neil%20Pryde%20Pram%2064.pdf -Paul |

Thanks for that Paul. I have a garage full of Pryde winsurfing sails. They were/are so far advanced compared to dinghy sails, it's very interesting to see these two new sails. 65 sq ft is the same size as our Scow sails so that is a very good size and the 35 sq ft will be perfect for the sailing canoes, and rowing skiffs.
The two rigging methods are clever as well. Sprit or cat rigged as Graham's Coot is. Prices are amazing. If only they could be imported without import taxes. Wonder what the ex-factory price is? Brian |

Brian,
Dilys and myself are getting quite good at patching sails with her sewing machine (the same one she made her wedding dress with!). I might be convinced to make a gaff sail one day, but its easier cutting larger sails down to size.....there is a top secret project in the pipeline. Mum's the word. -Paul |

Likewise. I was fortunate to live in Hong Kong for a few years where Pryde and Gaastra both had a factory outlet shop. You could pick up sails for peanuts! The Gaastra factory had an r&d facility and used to sell off its prototypes for next to nothing. I believe I still have a 5m wavesail never removed from its bag since the day it was purchased in the late 80's! You would think with the prices that we used to pay, that everyone would have been sailing on Pryde or Gaastra. Well not so. The Chinese, never missing a trick, had their own brand of sails, marketed as Windryde. They were remarkably similar to the NP sails, even with a very similar logo, and the ryde in Windryde used the same font as the ryde in Pryde! I believe they were both made in the same factory... WR were of course half the price of NP! That's why I had a few of those too. ![]() |
