My Annus Horibilis started with my marriage ending unpleasantly.  Then I found myself spending long hours in Haematology giving samples of blood and bone marrow.  When they told me I have Myeloma, a bone marrow cancer, they gave me the impression I might only have five years so I decided to get on with the first item on my bucket list: a new boat.  I rented space at John's Boatyard and bought the plans for a Selway Fisher 14ft Thames rowing skiff.  This is my first project in clinker.  The transom and sheerstrakes are going to be in Super Elite Plus and the thwarts in Tiger Elite.  Clinker is slower than stitch-and-tape but so much more enjoyable!

Meanwhile, I've had a reprieve: I have got Myeloma but will probably be around to enjoy the new boat for 20years or more.

I miss the big get-togethers we had at Barton Turf and Cotswold Water Park.  How about reviving one of them?

Agree, would be good to have a get together in the diary.

Regret this year I can't organise one, but will appreciate the efforts of anyone who can.

Hang in there Peter. When you're ready to launch we will definitely organise a jolly launch party for you....not sure where or when but something will pop out of the woodwork.

I miss your harmonica playing and banter - happy days.
 
Do you remember jokingly wanting to give Liza a job? Good choice because she has an offer to read maths at Oxford!

The gang will be at Beale Park so that is a chance to meet up.

Sounds like you've been through a tough time, strength and best wishes for the future.
Its good to see you're taking a positive approach and tackling good old clinker ply, you know it makes sense.
I think our get-togethers have morphed into the odd Raid and Cobnor Week.
Cobnor week is really like the old HBBR meets, good camping, great socialising, camp fires, a bit of music, a lot of drink, oh and the sailing is generally excellent, sometimes with a pub as the destination sometimes the beach at East Head, sometimes the cake shop at Emsworth.
Of course it is a DCA event but they have got used to us.
I'm planning to do The Thames again, but possibly a bit more slowly this time, which I'll post about soon. As Paul says there will no doubt be a fair few of us at Beale this year, which is under new management, so we'll see how that goes.

Thanks for all the good wishes.  I'm aiming to get to Cobnor this year, and some of the Lechlade Expedition, and I'll be at Beale Park.  It's time for a serious catch-up with the HBBR.

Paul - I know a young superstar when I meet one.  She may bump into Lata as she's at Oxford studying music.
