After contemplating the above and doing some more research I think I will go down the Core Sound MkIII path in regards to deck shape. The CS has a swept up bow similar to mine. It breaks the deck into three parts which will help me do a neat joint along the gunnel. I won't go as high because I am not creating a "cabin" as such because my hull depth is not as deep but it will give a big storage area.
I can create frames from ply that attach to the rear of the front tank and the front of the middle tank. The middle tank will more or less become the bridge deck. I'll remove the storage area flat deck area to open up a giant storage area. ![]() ![]() |

Hard to visualise but something like this?

It's a pity the infill has no shading tones
So it really doesn't help at all; here is Polly Wee's lack of deck beams and foredeck fresh on - ![]() ![]() To me, this is not overcambered, but within reason, the greater the camber, the greater the strength too. Here are the fore and aft decks with the bulkheads creating that camber on my rowing skiff - ![]() ![]() And Tit Willow as well, though it does not apply to her sterndeck which is on a different plane to the foredeck - ![]() I used the word horizontal in my last upload; by this I mean that the kingplank might be as high as horizontal coming away from the stem. I note that in the three above it does slope downwards toward the stern and I seem to remember that in at least one of them, I ran a line from the stem head to the top of the stern - similarly convex and the king plank and its aft cousin both followed that so that the eye sees one apex line all the way along both decks. Does that make sense? Chris W |

Cogitating further -
I've realized Jason, that you're considering an extra strake (??'tumbled-home' a tad), immediately above the gunwale and the deck on top of that. On purely aesthetic grounds I always find such structures look bow-heavy unless balanced by a similar arrangement aft, but that is only a personal opinion. If you build a foredeck on strakes, what are you going to use/stow along the top corners you have created each side? If you have the king plank at the same height as you would with the fully cambered deck, until you get these strakes high enough to sit under the deck, they are (just) another structure to instal and add windage with no real use. Correct me if I'm wrong.... please I'm the difficult old fart who put The 'git' in cogitating CG |

Personally I've always had a bit of a thing for the old raised deck.
I seem to remember my auntie having a lamp on top of her telly that looked a bit like this. ![]() I do agree with CW that the extra structure doesn't provide any useful space unless you go that bit further and build yourself a cabin or at least a cuddy. ![]() I detect a little bit of specification drift creeping in here. Build the boat you want. G. |
