UKHBBR Rowing team?

Hi,
I spotted this on the CVRDA forum, anyone interested?
Steve

Okay, not sailing dinghies, but passing Weybridge Ladies Rowing Club, (Surrey) yesterday a lady clearing out bits stored under the clubhouse said that the 2 wooden rowing eights that had been under it were to be broken up if no one wanted them in the next few weeks.

They both look to be in really good condition, but are too heavy for their use compared to the modern boats. The boats have been offered to other local clubs.

I don't have 'phone number, but if anyone is interested I'll get the contact details off the 'New Members Welcome' notice on the gate.

Re: UKHBBR Rowing team?

Nothing lovelier than a wooden rowing eight, but nothing more useless, sadly. If eight people (+cox) get together to row, sooner or later they will want to race. Then someone will say "we need a new racing boat" and the wooden eight will be heading for the bonfire again.
The best that can be expected is that they will end up hanging upside down from the ceiling of the club bar.

Re: UKHBBR Rowing team?

That is sad indeed. Since there are two of them could we build a hydrofoil catamaran and challenge for the next America's Cup?

An entry for this  http://theflyingboats.com/ might be easier, and closer to home!

Re: UKHBBR Rowing team?

Steve - Yes indeed. I do have some background with sailing hydrofoils (see http://www.hostellerssailingclub.org.uk/index.php/articles/a-sailing-hydrofoil) so count me in for the HBBR challenge!
