Where to get 5mm braided rope in 'beige/manila' colour?

I have got hold of some Langmans Poseidon braided rope which is great and I like the colour as it looks olde worlde. But the smallest they make is 6mm.

Does anyone know of another company that does a 4mm and or a 5mm in the same sort of thing? I don't particularly want a '3 strand twisted' style of rope. I bought some 3mm in that which is ok for some things but is stretchy.

Grateful for any tips.

The canoe is coming along steadily.

Running out of excuses not to start painting it. Once the rudder gear is finished off ? tomorrow night? then it is time to finish and fit out.

Hi Rob,
You could try Classic Marine, they do that sort of stuff.

Classic Marine

Glad to see things are coming along, you must be well into what passes for winter over there.
So we can look forward to an Aussie Spring launch!

Have fun
Graham.

Graham Classic Marine are no longer in retail. He sold the business. I forgot who to but I think its a Suffolk company.

I knew Moray McPhail had sold the business but I assumed as a going concern otherwise why bother,
and the web site is still up.
I would think an e-mail to them would confirm either way.
cheers

Re: Where to get 5mm braided rope in 'beige/manila' colour?

I dropped Classic Marine an e-mail last night.

"Hi
Can you please confirm whether you are still trading through this web site.
There seems to be some confusion in some quarters about what is happening since Moray took to the pipe and slippers. "

and got this response;

"Hello Graham.
We took over the retail side of the business in January this year,  everything remains the same in terms of ordering form the website. We are now at Suffolk Yacht Harbour Levington, where we have incorporated classic marine into our existing chandlery with a dedicated showroom .

Moray is concentrating more on bespoke fabrication, still very much involved in any custom fabrication that our customers may need..
Best Regards, Tom"

So that pretty much clears things up.
Carry On as Normal.

cheers
Graham

My favourite source is ebay. Stuart at UK Yacht Rigging Supplies in Grimsby was very helpful, but he has shut down his business.

Jimmy Green is usually keen on prices, but being by the coast must do a tremendous about of rigging for the industry. He has some deals on rope at the moment and caters for both small and large boats:

Arthur Beale's in Shaftesbury Ave (yes really - they do a lot of stuff for theatre rigging) has laid Hempex in 4mm and 6mm. I'm not sure Hempex exists in 5mm.
They also have genuine hemp and manilla cordage.
