Tim,
It looks like you will keep your front-line public sector customers. Keeping just their kids in schools is a radical and smart move, which was the conclusion I came to before the policy was introduced. My daughter's after school gymnastics business is hammered, but she is switching to video training* to keep the kids occupied and retain customers. We did a parsimonious shop today at the local CO-OP, no panic, hand baskets only, everyone sensible, no queuing. *I know your son is a professional video photographer. What is the low cost way to start recording lessons? Plugging a good microphone into a phone held steady? The hi-zoom consumer video cameras look interesting, and they look ideal for boating videos. The other option is a DSLR. I don't know which models support a microphone though. cheers -Paul |

Today, I ordered and paid for some stuff from Screwfix online click and collect and went down to pick it up. I have to report that the building trade in Southampton is going strong judging by the queue. My NHS trained wife is very strong on cross infection prevention and for a number of years we've had automatic soft soap dispensers in the house, and today her latest online order arrived, so we are good to go with hand wash for a few months. Our regular delivery of fresh fruit and vegetables was delivered by Boxfresh, with no substitutions or shortages. We have an online grocery slot booked for next week. Meanwhile my daughter got her online grocery delivery the other day, she ordered three packs of five fish fingers, which were substituted for three packs of twenty. Go figure. The kids will be sick of them before it's all over. Stay safe everyone. I'll be disappointed Grum, if these aren't something akin to a Wallace & Gromit jam dispenser, triggered by the front door opening???? Phil. |

Then prepare to be disappointed Phil. The Tooth Fairy (ret.) is gadget girl personified and insists that we are not at home to Mr W Heath Robinson, although he does seem to spend a lot of time in the garage. Incidentally the Tooth Fairy is currently taking part in her choir practice, upstairs online. Things may never be the same again. Watch out for low lying shells on Salisbury Plain..bit more instant than a bottle of corona.. I can remember the Corona lorry in Ludgershall.
I've always thought a model of Porton Down's old Narrow gauge railway would be an interesting model to make , But for some reason ![]() For me I'm still working, where for instance we calibrate stuff for AWA and many others, we always wonder if it will glow in the dark... We all got issued one of those Infrared thermometers free by the company the other day, we have to check our temperature each day before coming to work. The thermometers cost £100 each if you want one, but not to the company.. it's one of our products.. For myself, since the keel I'm working on is in the garage so it won't be the virus that stops play. Now the gales have gone (i hope) I'm considering putting the marquee cover back up and allowing the work area around the boat to dry out before restarting work on the boat itself.. Had I finished working on the boat as I'd hoped, I'd have been very annoyed not being able to go out and race, as Broads sailing clubs have suspended operations for the duration. However Private sailing from their venues is permitted.. It's going to be very quiet on the rivers, Although the Broads hire boat companies have put both the day boats and motorboats in the water, many are cancelling because they see the broads as a sort of Booze cruise and the pubs are closed.. Walking the Border Collie is no problem, we never meet anyone down the green lanes we walk the dog on.. This collection of Trivia has taken 2 hours to type during warm up waiting times on current shunts measured to 0.1 parts in a million (though that's not the uncertainty we claim..) |

We're just finding out how many of the parents of children in nursery are categorises as Key Workers. Probably our income will drop by 50% to 75%. Need to hear from the Chancellor pretty soon about the precise nature of the help that will be offered so we can continue to pay salaries beyond the end of March. Sums aren't adding up yet! On the filming front... good thinking on taking the gymnastics classes on-line. Just check the business insurance covers it. I've a Canon 70D that has mic input and that's a pretty old model now. Most DSLRs do have mic jacks these days. Having said that the camera's on mobile phones these days are very good and a perfectly adequate place to start. You're right thinking it's the microphone that needs help, worth getting a decent one. Always use a tripod or equivalent for the camera! Cheers. Tim.

Spare a thought for the kids. My eldest granddaughter is upset because she has probably left primary school for good. Middle granddaughter is upset because she has probably left her junior school for the last time. And my sister's eldest granddaughter is very upset because she has suddenly left high school for the final time. These are very significant milestones in our lives. Absolutely! No school leaving prom as well. A lot of the rituals associated with moving on to a new stage of life just gone.

Yep, everyone on the front line and logistics are flat out. Dilys had queues outside her pharmacy last few days, they let in 2 at a time for distancing. Docs have been prescribing a month or more of drugs to an endless stream of patients. They now open an hour later and close an hour earlier, to give the staff time to process the workload of scripts. Also close an hour at midday to give the staff a chance to have lunch and unwind, although Dilys carries on checking pill trays for the care homes. It's still a 10 hour day. Son in law is a trauma doc in hospital. Chris just gets on with things, regardless of the tornado ahead. The upside is with an NHS card you can get free coffee and pizza at Costa, Pizza Express etc. yum yum. Now there is me feeling good because I cut my older neighbour's grass. Paul |

Hi,
Still going in to work myself though with the GP surgeries very limited access, the cervical screening workload is dropping rapidly. We are clearing the shelves of work fast so probably going to have to give all of my agency staff a weeks notice tomorrow ![]() However with with Corona virus testing capacity being increased they might just get redeployed ![]() ![]() 2nd eldest nephew was working for Weatherspoon's so he should still get some limited top up pay, suggested he try the supermarkets as they are all hiring. And now for something completely different -
Paulie and I were disucssing food stocks a couple or three days ago and got at least as far as canned Tuna. It reminded me of an excellent recipe passed on to me, having been fed the concoction at the end of a long day, by no less than TimmO (of Connor fame), himself. I am sure he will not mind if I pass it on to you folk to enliven your weary way through your stockpile of victuals - Tuna Hash Originally sourced from a lumberjack’s camp in Canada shortly after the second world war. Ingredients; per person… 100g Macaroni 1 small can of tuna fish in oil 1/2 can of condensed cream of mushroom soup 100g grated cheddar cheese 1 egg Instructions 1. Place pasta and egg in pan of water, bring to boil and then simmer for 10 minutes. 2. Remove eggs (now hard boiled) and chill in cold water. 3. Drain pasta and leave in pan. 4. Add mushroom soup to pan and stir in while placing pan on medium heat. 5. Add tuna fish to pan and stir in breaking up the larger lumps. 6. Add grated cheese to pan and stir in carefully (it makes a mess if it gets out and cooks onto the stove.) 7. Peel the egg and add it to the pan, breaking it up into small pieces and mixing them in. 8. Allow entire mixture to heat through thoroughly stirring frequently. Serving Either serve directly to plates or place in a shallow dish, sprinkle top with grated cheese and melt topping under grill before placing on table. In order not to have to remember the order of inclusion - which may, or may not be important, (don't ask me, I can burn a salad), having started the egg and pasta boiling, I remember the mnemonic - 'Suffice' - Soup, Fish, Cheese, Egg I also add extras, some herby sprinkles and a generous surround of peas Jamie Oliver watch out! But maybe not Just yet CW (Peeling hard-boiled eggs is much, much easier if you put them in a jar with some cold water and shake the living daylights out of them first). |

Works with a camp stove, if you want the cheese topping use a blowtorch!
