Re: Abel by John

Looking very good John. See you (and the boat) at Beale. Looks like the sort of boat even my wife might genuinely enjoy a sail in. Stable, yet fun.

Tim.

Launch Day

Some Photos to share of a great day out on Windermere.

An excellent day out, and everything as hoped for; Plenty of room, we had 6 adults in for one sail and plenty of room to move and swap places, yet still remain stable. And when the wind increased so did her speed. As this was launch day it was more partying and short trips back and forth across the lake so difficult to assess her sailing characteristics but initial impressions are that she points well in to the wind and the helm feels light to the touch.

If you want to see more, she'll be at Beale this weekend and on the Severn next month.

Regards,
John

Re: Abel by John - Missing Beale Park

In reply to this post by WalneyJohn
Hi All,
Sorry I couldn't get to Beale Park with my boat, I got as far as Stafford before a minor traffic accident  (everyone is ok thankfully), which rendered my Car DOA and the boat bounced off the trailer (Small Hole in the Bow), so I had to return home via motorway rescue.

The boat should be a simple repair, just 2 planks have been broken so I can scarf in some replacements. I think the trailer came off worse!

Regards
John

Those of at the show heard. Glad boat seems repairable. Sorry about car/trailer and waste of weekend.

Bad luck but glad to hear things weren't worse.

Take some photos of the hole, without the trailer, so you can tell your grandchildren about the day heavy seas drove you onto the rocks. Or a mermaid or a siren depending on their age when you tell the saga.

Re: Abel by John - Missing Beale Park

John,

I was very sorry to hear about the mishap with your lovely new boat.  It seems bizarre that two home built boats have come to grief on the road in just a few weeks.  I was really looking forward to seeing your boat at Beale as I have never seen one "in the flesh" and she looks like a fine example.  I hope the repairs go well.

David.

Hi John,
You and your boat were missed at Beale Park. We heard what had happened, bad luck.

Some of us took the long way home, I'm just about getting things dried out now.

It was so wet coming home on Friday my Lifejacket inflated itself under the boat cover.

Still, a good time was had by all.

 Cheers Graham

We had gentle breezes this weekend, and it gave me a chance to try out my topsail....

Just in time for the wind to drop completly.

Re: Abel by John

Hi Pete,
The coast line is the Duddon Estuary / Walney Channel, the white cliffs are the remains of the early 20th century Iron & Steel Slag banks (Residue from the smelting process) the hills you can see in the distance are the Coniston range of the 'Old Man' & 'Dow Crag'

Regards,
John
