They say a picture tells a thousand words:



Ouch! I think the weight of water on the cover over the winter has deformed the hull, just behind the dagger board case.

It always had a slight leak, so my gut reaction is:
1. Rip out the case and fit the biggest centreboard possible.

2 Have a bonfire.

The Mirror is fun to sail, goes upwind so well, and its light enough for a splash and dash. So its plan 1 I think?

Advice welcome.

PS The horrible orange paint is peeling away. So she might end up with a nice red coat.

If you're not racing her, use 6mm ply instead of 5mm, and a coat of epoxy inside and out stiffens it enormously. (Been there, done that)

Thank you. No I won't be racing her.

She looks quite weak in that area that the single keel roller supports. It's unfortunate the roller is just behind the daggerboard case.

I think a short hog is necessary, from case to stern seat.

My good friend Grum has recommended a bonfire.

I agree. She must be held together with screws and pixie dust.
It did not take long with hand tools and wedges to remove the gunnels. Polyester resin is useless.

The gunnels are hardwood, in good condition and will be recycled as rubbing strakes for MilliBee. Parking in locks is done by feel....



So who needs Mirror spares?
