Hi Folks, Can you help me please?
I have a client who wants me to build her a boat. She has pretty exacting requirements and an unfailing belief in the builder. It needs to be able to travel on water, land and by air and should be a sleep aboard with room for two. She sent the following spec sheet. ![]() I particularly liked the upside down periscope so that you can watch the fishes and not bump into things. She's expecting me to knock up a full size version in a couple of weeks, so if anyone has any ideas how to manage her expectations I'd be very grateful. Papa. |

Impressive.
More likely to be seen gleaming at a pontoon at the Southampton boat show than in the small boat zone you pass through at the entrance.
Think you'll need to explain it might take more like four weeks, not two, plus time out for Thames Raid and Beale. Otherwise all looks well within your capabilities. Maybe CW could have a cardboard mock up by the end of the weekend? Or... you can hope the client has a short attention span and will, within a couple of weeks, be distracted by something more easily achieved. Tim.

I want one of those too!
There is a galaxy of boat building talent on the Thames cruise. We can design it in the pub and knock it up at the show. Easy. |

Easy;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LfD8-CJuQw Drop in the periscope, throw a tent over the top, job's a good'un. Probably won't even sink if the periscope weeps a bit..... Next?! Phil. |

Would that be an electric prop I see?
When the wee bairns join the raid in 2040 I think coal power will have a high licence fee haha. Magic batteries are lovely - fit 4 and they recharge at every lock. Paint it Yellow? There's a great song to sing along with. Happy days. Paul |

I love the wheel idea. Two casters at the front for MilliBee then two driven wheels off the transom. Sorted. I do have two chunky 24V motors bought for Robot Wars decades ago, rattling around somewhere. Modern cam belts are strong and waterproof..... |

Thank you all for your support. You may however be underestimating the tenancy of an eight year old's memory, particularly in light of a perceived "promise". I have therefore decided to run away to sea, well the Thames at least, in the hope that time may temper her persistence. Mmmmmm Beer! Sail when you can, motor when you can't.

IIRC the CAA refused to certify the amphibious hand-glider, so the flying bit may have to wait for a while.
Otherwise you maybe should be thinking of a 16ft x 4ft shanty boat/hardtop camping punt with wheels on. Just my 2c Simon |
