Insurance for self built small boats

Does anyone have experience of insuring a self designed and built boat?  How difficult is it?

There is a route through their instant quote system that doesn't ask for specifics of boat class, just needs to know how it's propelled, length, etc. I've used them for both my Iain Oughtred Acorn Skiff and my own designed Zelva.

I'm sure there are different insurers that take the same approach though and that other HBBR people will chip in with alternative suggestions.

I found them a couple of quid cheaper, at least as professional and their website has an excellent list of dinghies with their dimensions - always useful for an amateur designer, the likes of thee and me -

I also use Noble Marine. They are happy knowing that MilliBee is a 14ft wooden dinghy - I probably get the Enterprise price for example. They reinsure me every year without hassle; its best to give them a call.

3rd party risk seems to go with the length of the boat and the type, dinghy, rowing boat or canoe.

I use Bishop Skinner, may not be the cheapest but brilliant on a claim. They certainly came through on the crash/crunch with Inwe. In the end claiming under common law as it was better financially with great support.
