Insurance?

I've drawn a bit of a blank in trying to get insurance.
It all goes well until they ask whether the boat is professionally built.
(saying that's it's better than professional doesn't seem to cut it).

Any recommendations? Everyone seems to require a valuation or full survey

Re: Insurance?

Have you tried craftinsure.com ? I had no problem with them 6 years
ago and they keep renewing every year ok.

Problem they may have with insuring a home built boat is the cost of replacement. It's a hand crafted one off. Would cost a fortune to pay a professional craftsman to recreate it. The better you say the build quality is the more worried they could get!

craftinsure.com (the people I use to insure my Acorn Skiff "Ardilla") were happy when I simply agreed a fixed value in case of it being written off.

Have you considered third party insurance only?

Tim.

Noble Marine are quick and efficient.

Nobody will be able to nick it on the Raid, so just get 3rd party insurance and tell them its a heavy ballasted 14ft dinghy.

Try Newton Crum, they have insured both of my home built boats for the last 18 years, about £35 a year.

Hi,
I was having the same issue with the boat insurer wanting a build certificate, so after reading your note recommending craftinsure, I went online and saved £30 completing the whole transaction in 15 minutes.

Excellent advice from this group
