Hello chaps and chapesses
Has anyone found any interesting media on t'internet, or any DVDs, that might be of interest to boating enthusiasts? As examples, I can recommend the following: The Summer Cruise of Frank Dye and Bill Brockbank (what an epic cruise!) www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ9Qh9hv8eQ Robert Reid reports on British Waterways BTF 1962 (marine commerce on the Severn in 1962 - thanks to Randonneur for finding that one) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEfmuQRrRp8 Arved Fuchs and his team across the North Atlantic, part 1. Alas, no part 2 yet found. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwFeGb-4wLE Deep Water (2006), film. Fascinating, tragic story of events in the 1968 Golden Globe race. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), film. An entertaining mish mash of Patrick O'Brian characters and plots. Salty stuff. Quality soundtrack. I'd be pleased to hear what other goodies folks have found out there. Kind regards Adrian |

James Bond had a chase through the New Orleans swamp with an air boat.
Done it myself and they are so noisy you wear ear defenders. That's not too bad but the Pimms gets spilled. Can't have everything. Paul |

Ok here's a few starters. Firstly, as it's only got a week or so left to run on ITV player, Ray Mears paddles the Thames (remember the Thames?). As I'm slightly biased, #2 is "A look at sailing a Matt Layden designed Paradox from inside ...and out" #3 is a cruise to the Bahamas, just to rub it in that it's wet and yuk here. #4 especially for Christine - how to handbrake turn a ship into Sharpness... #5 A film by Warren Richey, tracking participants in the 2013 Everglades Challenge #6 Who's the toughest of Coast to Coast? Steve Gurney and Steve Moffatt re-enact an historic trip from 120 years ago to find out #7 Building - "who needs Robin's Elite and Epoxy?" #8 Joshua Slocum - Sailing Alone Around the World #9 Alone across in a 14 foot sailboat #10 Finally one from God's second country, where men wear skirts and drink amber fire water. It's worth logging in to see the whole episode (it's free) PP On Wed, Oct 22, 2014 at 6:11 PM, Paul (admin) [via UK HBBR Forum] <[hidden email]> wrote: James Bond had a chase through the New Orleans swamp with an air boat. |

Brilliant.
I watched the Everglades Challenge film from end to end, fantastic. Makes The Thames look like a Sunday school picnic. Well it is really. I've been trying to work out how to get Katie Beardie on a plane. |

Penzance to Burnham-on-Crouch or Bristol to Chichester would be about the right distance. -- Sail when you can, row when you must, motor when you have to be at work in the morning. Agreed - and I thought we were mad! But one guy summed it up for me "I do it for the challenge and camaraderie" -Paul One skeg short of a boat. |

If that was of interest you really need to read Warren's book, Without a Paddle, which is the account of the, ever so slightly tougher, 1200 mile Ultimate Florida Challenge.
Now closer to home (especially if you're in Scotland). PP |

Adrian,
Thank you for this interesting and educational video link. I shall be taking particular care in stowing my potatoes in Katie Beardie's holds in future. What is it with your family and old tramps? |

Keep them coming Pete.
I'm building up a great collection for passing the time on ferry crossings to and from France (as well as on flights, watching these is starting interesting conversations with fellow passsengers.) Tim

Tonight's short clips are called "Contrasts" This is sailing a "Scamp" on the Everglades Challenge. Apparently it's cold (for Florida)... (yes I know some of you have the plans for Scamp) and this is a pleasant sail on our local River Severn 3 days ago. Warm clear water, golden sands. A larger baler would be useful.... PP |

Pete,
Thanks for this - it was good to be able to enjoy the last raid without getting: (a) wet, (b) a sore @rse. There seemed to be a lot more beer involved than in 2012, though. Best regards, David. |

I generally try and avoid the word 'awesome'.
But I can't think of another word that quite fits... So... Awesome it is. Tim.
