Re: Morbic 12

Well, to potentially miss-quote  UK Prime Minister Harold Macmillan,  "Events dear boy Events"

I decided I needed to get The Heron back into sailing trim so that I can put it on the market, so I scraped off the old varnish from the decks and gave it a couple of coats of epoxy followed by a couple of coats of Epiphanes.

Damn you Nabble.

So having done that and put it all back together again it seemed only sensible to go for a sail. So Paulie and I took her out with CW and Cobnor Tom sailing in company. A Great Time was had by all but I can only say it was bloody freezing.  And then it Rained.

Lockdown Beards, 70's Style Mullets and Wooly Hats are the "in"  thing this season.

Meanwhile I have been trying to figure out the topping lift/lazy jack system and also measure up for the cover, a virtualisation of which you can see here.

Next couple of weeks is filled with grandchildren's birthdays and visits to parents in Scotland so it'll be a week or so yet before the launch. Hopefully it'll have warmed up by then.

Re: Morbic 12

As some of you may have seen on our Other Channel I finally managed to get Sistership launched on Friday.

And not before bloody time.

This was a "soft launch" to sort out the wrinkles and familiarise myself with the boat before the obligatory naming ceremony, which will of course include "The Sisters" after whom the boat is named.

So instead I was joined by our very own CW and Admin Paul who helped, brought the prosecco (thanks CW)  proffered advice and took the photos. A special thanks too to Cobnor Tom who took the photos of us on the water.

Three old men, literally up the creek, having a great time.

Aren't they lovely.

The Morbic 12 was deemed to be a jolly nice little design and the builder is very happy with the results.

Cheers, Graham.

Re: Morbic 12

Totally tremendous Graham!

She looks amazing.

Can you please share a good photo of your tiller and tiller extension.  I need a longer one and I'm curious how to join the extension to the tiller without using a piece of plastic from the boat shop (which I hope Mr Vivier avoided)

That's an awesome looking sail too.  I love the shape.

Re: Morbic 12

Hi Jason,
Thanks for the kind words.

Here's a shot of the tiller set up.
The tiller is a sandwich of 6mm ply between two bits of Doug Fir, curved as per the design.
The rudder is weighted so it only needs an uphaul hence the bronze pipe cleat which I had lying around.
The extension is two layers of Doug Fir laminated to match the curve of the tiller.
The blue bungee cord is a rudimentary tiller tamer which can easily be un hooked.

The tiller extension is held on by one of these.

They are fairly universal on all old style dinghies like Mirrors Herons etc.
and still available here.

https://www.tridentuk.com/gb/product-universal-joint-with-base-plate-fixing-al-a4098.html

A bit of 4mm bungee threaded through a deck eye stops the extension flailing around when not in use.

I have spent a good part of the day moving things around after feedback from one or two people who hang around here.
The lazy jacks and halyard are now moving and working a lot better, at least when trailer sailing on the drive, we'll see what happens on the water.

Cheers Graham.

$31.95!

I'm sure the one I got at the Earl's Court Boat show in 1974 was less than £5!

I still have it, it's currently installed on my Acorn Skiff.

Re: Morbic 12

Yes well we pay through the nose for everything over here because of the way our retail system works and the markup that everyone in the chain puts on.  Manufacturer, exporter, importer, wholesaler, retailer...then me.  Having a small population makes efficiency of scale a non event.

Stainless steel...
