Some of you may have seen it elsewhere, so I'd better confess.
I've got another woman.
She's a skinny little thing, liable to be a bit frisky but might provide the odd thrill.
She's already telling me to go on a diet.



Even although she's a simple girl I'm going to have to build her over frames to get the plank shapes, but that might be a one-sided affair.  I haven't got the patience to figure out how to do it with software.
There are rumours the sound of sawing has been heard from my garage.

CW has doubts about whether the ply will bend, he's a fine one to talk.
Feel free to chip in with sage advice but I could do without the sound of sucking through teeth.

I'll just edge in here amongst the avalanche of replies to say she looks fun to me!!!

Pleasure in boating is not necessarily proportional to the size and weight of the boat.

PS: I have not read about Slack Alice elsewhere, and I cannot read the dimensions on the photo - who designed her, and where can I have a look at the details, please?

I especially like asymmetric canoe hulls, they look right to me.

This your own design Graham? Am assuming so given your name is on the legend.

Nice work. 

She looks like she'll be ready and willing at any time. 

Should be able to make her very light for handling off the water but she sits low enough when afloat not to get blown all over the place. Clean design might even be a reasonably quick build. When will we see her afloat?

Hi, yes she's all my own work, well with an awful lot borrowed from elsewhere.
Nothing new under the sun and all that.
I deliberately tried to pare everything down to a minimum. I wanted something I could throw on the roof rack and be away in minutes, light and yes easy to build.
I was aiming for condensed essence of canoe, it that doesn't sound too pretentious.  Moi?



Some single chine canoes can look a bit boxy and I wanted to avoid that so I think she's got some nice curves. There's not much freeboard, and that combined with a fairly narrow beam could cause problems, although she's very specifically designed for flat water, rivers canals etc. not white water or the sea, hence the name. There's always the option to put a deck on her if she proves too wet.
She will of course be paddled, sitting down facing forward, with a double paddle.

Nice one Graham, look forward to seeing the end result. If push comes to shiv you could always turn around to paddle, very wing shape . I am pleased to see another G. production.

It's amazing and inspiring that after thousands of years of small boat development, we can still create something that looks intriguing and different.

Here, "elegant simplicity" comes to mind, yet again.
