Something like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220972093324? We bought one to work on the boat diesels at the Centre; haven't used it yet. It works on a bit of reflective tape stuck on, so really needs a flywheel or something on the shaft. (Could work on the chuck I suppose) Simon |

There is now one month left in which to enter and I am surprised that no one except me has disclosed their intended entry.
AirGlider This is now nearly finished with just the difficult job of designing and making the propeller. I have had a dry run with the leaf blower and this lasted for 14 minutes, but this will be much reduced when the back pressure of the water has to be overcome. The final weight is 26 kg which is 25% down on last years entry, which should help the acceleration. Dennis |

Hi Dennis,
I'll be entering Four Candles again but with optimally designed propellers - three blades, adjustable pitch, running in the best direction to suit the drills and designed with the aid of Javaprop. The amas will be shorter and lighter by removing the ends which are currently above the waterline at each end and not contributing. I had a nice design for a planing boat but have spent my spare time converting my tip of a garage to a usable workshop, which has been time consuming and physically more difficult then I expected. Anyone else care to reveal some CCC secrets? |

I'd share my design, already have, but nobody wants to play with me... How about some pictures guys, risk all, win big. Over three months until my race here in Canada. Still looking for a sponsor. Best of luck ladies and gentlemen. Why are there never any women competing in these things? My wife thinks I'm absolutely bonkers. She may well be right... Cheers!

Hi Tom,

If you are adding to an existing thread then, by definition, you are replying. If you mean "How do I start a new topic?", then if it is to be in the same area in the forum then you click the "Return to xxxxx" link after the last post in the topic and click "New Topic" at the top of the page. If it is to be in a different area of the forum then click the "UK HBBR Forum" link instead and navigate to the appropriate area and find the relevant "New Topic" link there. If you are doing all this via email, then just look in the footer of the message, it will tell you the address to use to start a new topic. And then there were three......
The wood for my entry is arriving on Friday. There's going to be alot of stitching to do to get a presentable photograph for the entry deadline......:). My entry is based on this boat I saw by the side of a Norwegian Fjord 15 years ago and is intended to be used after the CCC as a family rowing boat. Here's a piccy of that boat. ![]() Is there anyone else out there? Simon |
![]() |
You're asking if anyone else is out there, Simon?
Although there have been a number of CCC entries from HBBR guys, there are easily (at least) as many entrants again who do not frequent this website and though there may be one or two playing their cards close to their chests, I think most have had a go, or an idea and have now gone on to other things. Personally I do not have the engineering expertise to make it worth my trying and anyway, I'd rather be sailing. So I hope to be at Beale disguised as a Dinghy Cruising Association member But good luck with your effort CW |

Closing Date Extension
Pete at Watercraft has advised that they are extending the entry closing day for the 2013 CCC to 10 May. This is due to the bad weather causing problems with some of the boat builds. Dennis |

To celebrate that I've finally got the hang of adding messages to this forum, may I add to Dennis' posting of 5 April that the difficulties people are having persuading epoxy to cure in this cold weather have persuaded us to extend the deadline to 10 May for entries to ABBA, our Amateur Boat Building Awards at the Beale Park show. All the other rules explained in the Nov/Dec issue and on our website are unchanged.
To help us plan our assorted stands at the show, if you are planning to enter either ABBA or the CCC (or both) and have not contacted us yet, would you please send me a quick email. Pete G |

CCC Race takes place at the Beale Park boat show. Not sure exactly what the CCC race schedule will be on each day. Come along! The more the merrier. There will be a good number of HBBR types there to say hello to, the Amateur Boat Builders Awards always attract an interesting collecton of home built boats as well. There will also be a group of HBBR people setting off on Sunday on a trip down the Thames and up the Kennet and Avon Canal (details still to be sorted, must get out and do the recce!) Tim.

Just to confirm, this year's Cordless Canoe Challenge.... 8 entries so far and rising (at last! (Phew!))... will happen at the Beale Park Boat Show 7-9 June. There are two categories...with over £1000-worth of Makita cordless tool prizes for the winners of each.
The CCC 60 for boats powered by no more than 60 volts-worth of rated cordless tool power competing on a 300m course will run heats on Saturday 8th at around 11am and the finals on the Sunday morning at the same time. The CCC 600 with no limits on rated power running a 600m course will have heats on the Saturday afternoon at around 2-30pm and finals on Sunday afternoon at the same time, following by prize-giving for both CCCs. Deadline for entries in the CCCs and ABBA, our Amateur Boat Building Awards, has been extended to 10 May to allow entrants with builds delayed by the long winter to still take part. Any other queries, please contact us at Water Craft or come and see us at Beaulieu Boat Jumble this Sunday... weather still looking good... on our stand opposite the Information kiosk. |

I could have been clearer. I'd love to attend as a competitor but Canada is to far and shipping would be prohibitive! On Apr 26, 2013 8:06 AM, "Timmo [via UK HBBR Forum]" <[hidden email]> wrote:

AirGlider
I had a very disappointing first outing on the local canal and only reached 3 MPH, more disaster for when I started the air fan the boat slowed up by 0.5 MPH. The slow top speed, I hope is caused by the center of gravity being to far forward with too much of the front of the boat in the water. I plan to move the drill back 200 mm, which will help me sit further back. With the water, it bubbles out the side and does not cover the boat bottom. We had this problem on the model static boat tests and this was largely over come by the use of small side air retaining walls running the length of the planing surface. Dennis |

Pete,
The CCC is a great spectator sport, some serious boats, some eccentric and some suitably British! The success could be expanded to include dinghies, not powered by electric drills (no good for long distance) but some form of electric drive within a fixed budget. Pick a budget at the cost of an petrol outboard and all our wizz-kid designers will dream up some environmentally clever ways of travelling a distance down the river. One mile up and down the Thames followed by several laps around the pond might be a crowd pleaser. Or let them go as far as they want within 1 hour, GPS results will sort out the winners and there are widgets that can measure electric power used (Watt-hours) to sort out the most efficient designs. The hidden agenda is to promote an alternative to the plastic-fantastic smoke and noise generators, very much in keeping with the theme of the show. cheers Paul |
